ASBESTOS MANAGEMENT

• Guidelines issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and OSHA require employers and building owners and managers to protect their employees and tenants from exposure to airborne asbestos fibers in the workplace. If asbestos-containing materials are present in your building or workplace, you should determine the location of the materials, evaluate the risk of exposure to people who live or work in the facility, and implement measures to minimize the risk of exposure.

• There are two basic options in dealing with asbestos--in place management or removal. The presence of asbestos does not automatically dictate its removal. EPA guidelines require removal only during renovation or demolition activities when the potential exists for a significant release of asbestos fibers into the air. On the other hand, ignoring asbestos can be very risky. Regulatory and legal issues make it prudent for you to determine if asbestos- containing materials are present in your workplace or building and which of the two options for managing asbestos problems are appropriate for your situation.

• Our staff of EPA-AHERA certified building inspectors, management planners, project designers and industrial hygienists have extensive experience in providing cost-effective asbestos management services to business, industry, government and educational institutions. This expertise is supported by our extensive in-house laboratory capabilities. Suspect asbestos building materials and air samples are analyzed in accordance with EPA and state regulations using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM), Phase Contract Microscopy (PCM), in addition to analysis of air, water and bulk-asbestos samples using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). These analyses, along with survey results are double-checked by our stringent quality control/quality assurance procedures. This expertise allows us to accurately evaluate your asbestos problem to develop a practical, cost-effective solution designed to meet your unique needs.
